Job Description

We’re looking for a proven leader to join Shopify’s Finance team as a lead finance partner and trusted advisor to the company’s Growth organization. Shopify is on a mission to bring more entrepreneurship to the world, and the Growth team is a key driver of this mission. We know the adversity merchants face in building their business, and we're dedicated to removing those barriers and creating simple, connected solutions.

In this high-impact role, you will lead a team to provide strategic and operational insights, financial reporting, forecasting, planning, and decision support to help our Growth team drive outstanding merchant impact and make commerce better for everyone.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing financial leadership in company-wide annual investment planning and monthly/quarterly forecasting, including assisting in the development of operational targets and budgets for the Growth organizations

  • Developing actionable management reporting, dashboards, and KPIs, and overseeing monthly variance analysis and operating reviews to track business success

  • Owning overall business planning with Growth leadership, including preparing annual investment plans and rolling long-range plans

  • Providing ongoing operational financial support to the Growth team, maintaining ample room for experimentation while driving strong overall unit economics and merchant impact

  • Partnering with the business and with the data science team to develop and maintain a Shopify-wide LTV framework that can be used across Growth and the rest of Shopify’s Commercial and Product groups

  • Identifying, prioritizing, and overseeing long-term projects and ad hoc analyses of Shopify’s Growth investments, to help inform long-range planning and unlock further growth opportunities across the business

  • Supporting organizational peers on financial issues impacting their areas of accountability, including the development of business and financial cases to support new initiatives

  • Building and managing a high-performing team, elevating top talent to help maximize their impact and achieve their full potential

  • Leading Finance-wide projects to build and reinforce the team’s focus on performance, impact and professional development

  • Track record of strong performance in management consulting, investment banking, accounting or a related field

  • Experience creating investment business cases in a fast-growth business

  • Performance Marketing team extending to media mix management, attribution modeling, and LTV analysis

  • Experience partnering with Data Science teams

  • Proven builder and leader of teams — you have experience recruiting and developing new team members, driving performance, and prioritizing work effectively

Relevant experience for the role

  • Proven track record of driving significant impact in complex business situations

  • Deep familiarity with SaaS unit economics (LTV, CAC) and growth marketing metrics (CPC, CPL, conversion funnel)

  • Experience scaling effective ad spend by orders of magnitude to drive growth

  • Experience overcoming complexities of an attribution point of view from the ground up, and across a mix of media formats, both domestically and internationally

  • Expertise in financial modelling and strategic business planning

  • Experience working with or alongside a high-performing, rapidly scaling Growth / Performance Marketing team with a large-scale budget

  • A growth mindset, a builder’s mentality and a proven history of effective execution

  • The ability to thrive in a fast-moving, ambiguous work environment and to navigate through change

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, business partnering expertise, and an excellent ability to mentor and teach

  • Strong project management skills, working effectively with cross-functional teams
