Shopify is looking for an experienced marketing manager who is passionate about creating meaningful campaigns and programs that lead to community and impact. The vision for this role is to captivate and inspire existing and prospective entrepreneurs within key cities in the US East to see Shopify as a trusted brand and indispensable commerce platform. This position is US-focused, but will work with regional and global teams to scale programs.

Job Description

As the Field Marketing Manager, you’ll be responsible for deepening Shopify’s connection within key cities using data, advantageous tactics, and creative problem solving, with a focus on underserved communities.  By working with the Field Marketing Lead, you will test and define the ways in which Shopify approaches new cities, including how we show up, identify opportunities, and tackle challenges with the objective to get people to know, love, and grow their business on Shopify. 

You have a curious, investigative, and persistent spirit and thrive on impact. You get excited by strategic challenges and creating something where nothing exists. You are a self-starter with vision, and can rally internal teams and stakeholders. You know how to manage ambiguity and can be the first mover within a business when it comes to pitching concepts and creative problem solving. You don’t rely on how things have been done, instead, you lean into data, trends, creativity, and the community culture to guide your decisions. 

You have strong marketing chops and expertise on how to leverage unfair advantages. You default to long-term thinking. You have a pulse on the local zeitgeist of our key markets, including New York City, and the ability to identify partners who contribute to Shopify’s mission and goals, and you can author agreements wherein Shopify and the partner win. You’ve worked in several marketing capacities, including brand, so you have strong acumen on building unique visual and verbal systems that resonate with targeted audiences. You understand the digital and IRL landscape.

Your mandate is to support bringing to life how we look, sound, activate, and impact our key cities, ultimately bringing more entrepreneurs onto Shopify and enabling existing Shopify merchants to grow. 


  • Thorough understanding of internal and external data - keeping your finger on the pulse when it comes to trends, dynamics, and opportunities. 

  • Support the integrated marketing strategy and execution in key cities with a focus on New York, creating efficient working models to bring together global efforts and regional execution including campaign strategy, and IRL/Digital events.

  • Deep knowledge of full funnel marketing, from how we expand our brand awareness and shift perception to how we build relevancy in a new market using insights, perspective and data. 

  • Support the development, creation, and execution of an integrated marketing plan to reach existing and prospective entrepreneurs in a hyper-local way

  • Establish meaningful partnerships with private and public organizations that earn Shopify relevancy in each city.

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative research often

  • Support building the annual, quarterly strategic marketing goals that align to US East business goals

  • Maintain a pulse on local zeitgeist and which businesses are having a meaningful impact on local communities. Ability to present these businesses as potential partners to the business and why. 

  • Compile data across all various media platforms and create reports, including analysis for insights, optimizations and future strategy development.

  • Collaborate with the Field Marketing Lead to build toolkits for future city leads

  • Partner with the Audience Acceleration team to ensure key cities are hitting targets across all products. 


  • Ability to understand and navigate complex organizations to mobilize swiftly

  • Deep knowledge of your city and its entrepreneurial landscape, as well as how to drive business growth, entrepreneurship, and independence

  • History of creative problem solving, combining wit, finesse, and available resources to get the job done

  • Passionate about connecting commerce and culture as a way to stimulate communities and economies

  • Intermediate level understanding of performance marketing or demand generation

  • Curious about testing and experimenting when it’s right for Shopify.

  • Extensive verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft great copy and convey complex concepts simply.

  • Ability to present compelling new content ideas to key stakeholders and execute production plans. 

  • Strong relationship building skills and the ability to operate in a highly complex business.

  • Extensive analytical, planning, and organizational skills

Additional Information
