Atomic is a venture fund that founds and funds companies. We don’t take pitches. We build. We believe that disruption is most successfully achieved by pairing innovative ideas with business discipline. We have launched and scaled more than 20 companies, including Hims & Hers, OpenStore, Replicant, Bungalow, Homebound, Found, Butter, and more.
We are looking for a Director of Fund Finance to help drive our finance function, which is now responsible for four funds and 40+ companies and counting. This role will be involved in everything from financial reporting to thinking about ways to drive fund returns. You will help develop strategy and perspective around portfolio construction and investment opportunities.
Role and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Fund Finance will serve as an integral member of the finance team, helping to manage a broad range of accounting, finance, treasury, operations and tax items across the funds and GP entities, with potential exposure to other finance areas as appropriate. This individual will not only help drive the day-to-day financial operations but will also play an integral role in helping the CFO uplevel the fund finance function of Atomic – enhancing policies and procedures, evaluating service providers, and ensuring the overall finance function is best-in-class. The ideal candidate will be a humble team player that puts the firm first and can operate well in the details while also maintaining the bigger picture.

What You'll Do:

    • Perform first review of quarterly and annual financial statements prepared by the outsourced service provider.
    • Coordinate the financial reporting timelines and deliverables for all Atomic funds and GP entities, including working with the auditor and outsourced service provider.
    • Organize the quarterly valuation process, including pulling together necessary information and performing initial analysis.
    • Analyze capital deployment planning, capital recycle, liquidity, and fund scenario planning.
    • Manage the treasury function for the Atomic funds, including monitoring cash levels and determining capital call needs for the funds.
    • Monitor Atomic’s lines of credit, including working with the bank and service provider to ensure any compliance requirements are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Review fund and GP tax work, including annual tax compliance process, with the outside accountants and Atomic’s Director of Tax.
    • Act as preparer or first reviewer of ad hoc LP confirmations and requests, coordinating with the outsourced service provider as needed.
    • Help evaluate service providers and tech stack across the fund finance function to ensure operational efficiency/effectiveness.
    • Work with rest of the team to enhance policies and procedures as Atomic works to continue to scale the Firm with the recent addition of Atomic IV ($320M, closed in Spring 2023).

What You Have:

    • 8-10 years of experience, primarily in alternative asset management.
    • Ideal candidate will be current Controller/Manager level at a world-class venture studio, venture fund, or private equity fund, with earlier experience in a Big 4 (or other top tier) accounting firm.
    • Demonstrated success on a high caliber team working on tight timelines with competing priorities.
    • Prior history of working with a team to make meaningful impact to finance organization; this is not a role for someone who just wants to keep the trains moving.
    • Ability to effectively communicate technical topics/issues to upper-level executives, both verbal and written.
    • Strong technical expertise in fund accounting with at least some tax experience preferred.
    • Experience working with outsourced service providers preferred, but not required.
    • CPA qualification.

Who You Are:

    • Passion for and embodiment of Atomic’s core values and mission.
    • High level of empathy and humility; ability to thrive in a low-ego environment, always putting the team and business first.
    • Results focused, able to set goals then drive to them.
    • Able to ask tough questions and challenge assumptions of team members, including executive team members, in a productive and non-combative way.
    • Collaborative nature and strong communication skills.
    • Charismatic leader with the ability to represent and share the company’s story.
    • Possesses the interpersonal and influencing skills needed to effectively share and engage the entire organization in the key financial drivers of the company.
    • Highly intelligent and intellectually curious; able to think deeply and qualitatively about business problems, breaking down issues and presenting solutions.
    • Exceptional communication skills; experience in effectively interacting with senior executives and line management at all levels.
    • Entrepreneurial; motivated and effective in a fast paced and dynamic culture.
$185,000 - $215,000 a year
We are focused on building a diverse and inclusive workforce. If you’re excited about this role, but do not meet 100% of the qualifications listed above, we encourage you to apply.
